Camp Vet - Summer

Camp Vet is a hands-on camp for 12–15 year olds. This career discovery program will introduce campers to a wide variety of animals and the care that they require, while learning what it takes to become a veterinarian. Campers will experience real-life medicine including:
  • Observing surgeries in our veterinary clinic
  • Dissecting organs
  • Learning anatomy
  • Viewing specimens under microscopes
  • Practicing hands-on pet first aid
  • Exploring how animal diseases can be very different than those that affect humans

Advanced Camp Vet

Advanced Camp Vet sessions are open exclusively for 12-17 year old participants who have formerly attended at least one session of Camp Vet. This accelerated Camp Vet experience dives deeper into the world of veterinary science and offers additional hands-on opportunities. Campers in the advanced sessions will work side by side in one-day rotations with veterinarians and veterinary technicians in our Pet MD clinic.

Participants will engage in actual keeper chores that they perform everyday to keep the animal residents healthy. They will work in the Reptile room, small mammal area as well as many other behind-the-scenes areas at AAWL & SPCA.

Participants will now develop skills to manage keeper records, keeper staff, food orders, and learn the science behind animal husbandry.
